I had PHPBB on a website but the spam bots got in there and it was difficult to maintain and clean up. Is there a better way to install and manage a Forums App? Maybe with an advanced login page or something with a CAPTCHA? Any ideas. Please provide links, thanks. Well mybb (personally) one of the closest things to vB and its free I really like the convience of it all I too am starting up a Forum. and it is awesome for user management (big problem before about that with phpbb)just check out the configurations

we had the same problem here with a similar type of site. we ended up solving the problem by making people read one of those squigly words on an image, and entering the word. it's annoying, but it works.
I would suggest Vbulletin. As its highly customizable from the ground up and can be easily upgraded and modules added which enhances functionality.
